Its been donkeys years that Indian Government is trying to bring FDI in the most sought after sector "Organized Retail".
It brings cheers on the faces of always so much harrowed Retail workforce including me even at the prospect of FDI in multibrand retail. Its not that our salaries will increase four folds, all of us will be offered free palatial accommodation and chauffeur driven car from home to office. But atleast there will be one more company to apply to and slog our a** off working.
Now getting back to the title. Walmart has always shared Love n Hate relationship wherever they are operating stores and wherever they intend operating stores. My comment comes from reading the book "The Sam Walton Way". The funny part about the news "Walmart India Plans at Final Stage" is that this final stage has been supposedly (if earlier news are to be believed) reached quite a few number of times. As I read through the latest news article, even at the final stage Walmart is seeking clarifications and changes in the policy. The final policy has been drafted by the committee after so many revisions and now there is a demand of change in local sourcing percentage to 20% rather than 30% as directed by the new policy. If I could suggest why not have a committee which has active participation from FDI prospects, Indian retail veterans as well.
It looks like multibrand retail FDI will see Sun only post Apr'14 elections provided the favoring party comes to power.
We are waiting in anticipation ;-)
